Teams

We would like to invite all practicing members of Sacred Heart who wish to play basketball to find a team below and join. There are no cuts in our program, if a child wants to play they will be on a team. All children must either be enrolled in a Catholic school or attend CCD. There is a registration fee and each family will be asked to donate some time at the concession stand during home games and tournaments hosted at Sacred Heart.

Practices are usually 1-2 times a week. League games are held either at Sacred Heart Gym or one of the Catholic schools in the area. The games are played either after 6 on weeknights or on weekends.

Teams:

  • 3rd and 4th grade:
    These are teams that play in a non-structured league. The games try to stress fundamentals. All children play an equal amount of time. Score is kept in quarters and the games are refereed by parents. There are no standings, trophies or playoffs. Separate teams for boys and girls.
  • 5th and 6th grade:
    The teams play in a structured league. If there are enough children, the teams can be broken up into a 5th grade team which plays in a 5th grade league and a 6th grade team. Each child will play a minimum of 4-6 minutes a game. The teams play an average of 12-25 games a season. This includes regular season games, playoffs and tournaments.
  • 7th and 8th grade: These teams play in a formal league. They follow high school basketball rules. There is no minimum playing time, all players will play on most occasions but this is not guaranteed. The teams play an average of 20-30 games a year. This includes regular season games, playoffs and tournaments.
  • High School: These teams play in a formal league. They follow high school basketball rules. There is no minimum playing time, all players will play on most occasions but this is not guaranteed. The teams play an average of 10-15 games a year. You can not play for a high school team and for the CYO team.
